Patricia O. Penrose

Patricia (Patty) O. Penrose, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away peacefully after a brief battle against ovarian cancer on Thursday, February 5, 2026, her 65th birthday. Born and raised in Springfield, Patty was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Ricciardi) O’Brien. She was a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School, where she met her husband of 41 years, Gerald (Jerry) Penrose. Patty later earned a degree in economics from Villanova University. Above all else, Patty cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Mommom who always put her loved ones first. She dedicated herself fully to raising her children and later spent nine joyful years as a “full-time Mommom,” lovingly caring for her grandchildren—watching as many as four full-time at once. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life. For 14 years, Patty proudly served the Springfield School District, first at the High School and most recently at E.T. Richardson Middle School. Known for her gentle nature, patience, and compassion, she made a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and families alike. A woman of deep faith, Patty was a longtime and devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Her kindness and nurturing nature knew no bounds—she was always ready to care for others and offer comfort in times of need. Patty’s warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will be remembered and cherished always. She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald (Jerry) M. Penrose; her children, Katelyn P. (Craig) Oliver, Gerald J. (Robbie) Penrose, and Annie M. (Ian) Finnerty; and her adored grandchildren, Anna, Emily, Scarlett, Maeve, Sofie, Bennett, and August. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen O’Brien and Joanne O’Brien Frazier; her nephew, Bobby; her nieces, Megan and Grace; and many extended family members and dear friends. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Lombardo Funeral Home, 530 W. Woodland Avenue, Springfield, and Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Interment at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jake’s Dragon Foundation at jakesdragonfoundation.org.
