Lila P. Sciubba

Lila P. Sciubba, 94, a resident of Media and formerly of Springfield and East Lansdowne, passed away on January 10, 2026. Lila, a 1949 graduate of Lansdowne High School, began her career at Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon) in Philadelphia just two weeks after graduation on her 18th birthday. Her early work with computer punch cards placed her at the forefront of the computer era. Through perseverance and dedication, she advanced into management roles at a time when few women achieved such positions. After her father Consalvo’s sudden passing in 1952, she became the family’s sole provider and helped support her two brothers in earning their mechanical engineering degrees. She lived with and took care of her mother Agnes until her passing in 2005. After retiring in the mid-1980s, Lila chose never to work for money again. Instead, she dedicated more than 25 years to volunteering at the Springfield Public Library and Rosemont College Library. She also crafted handmade Hugga Bears for the Bell Pioneers to comfort children in emergency situations, crocheted heart pillows for heart surgery patients, and delighted family and friends with her signature pizzelles and biscotti. Lila had six nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephew. But she was Auntie Lila to countless others – both friends and neighbors who became family. As Auntie Lila, she never missed a birthday, baptism, first communion, wedding or major event. There are many stories of those receiving a handwritten note from Lila just to say “I’m thinking about you.” Known for her generosity and grace, she touched the lives of countless “friends of Lila.” She developed a large group of “gym buddies” when after a 1993 heart attack she began 30 years of early morning workouts – she never stopped calling it “rehab”. During her eleven years living at Granite Farms Estates, she was a warm and familiar presence at morning coffee, evening dinner, and in the halls where everyone knew Lila! While she volunteered many hours at Granite Farms, she refused to log her hours because she didn’t want to take the credit – that sums up Lila. As does this quote from a Springfield Press article about the Hugga Bears… “(If she wasn’t making the bears), be sure of one thing, this kindhearted woman with the welcoming smile and giving nature would be doing something, somewhere for someone else.” Yes, she would and she did – for her entire life. Predeceased by her brothers, Consalvo “Carl” Sciubba Jr. and Domenico “Dom” Sciubba. Lila is survived by her nieces and nephews, Lila Ann (Jim) White, Carl Sciubba, Lisa Sciubba, David (Gina) Sciubba, Curt Sciubba and Paul (Nicole) Sciubba; great nieces and nephew, Heather (Chubo) Peng, Rob Sciubba and Ava Sciubba; sisters-in-law, Ruth Sciubba and Aletha Sciubba.
