Craig W. Sassaman

Craig W. Sassaman, 70, a longtime resident of Media, PA passed away suddenly on July 22, 2026. Born on December 8, 1955, in Lower Merion to the late Roland and Dorothea (Moore) Sassaman. Craig was a graduate of Haverford High School. He went on to build a long and successful 50-year career as a commercial construction superintendent running various projects, from military bases to government facilities to schools – a career he wholeheartedly loved. More importantly, he was everyone’s “emergency contact” and handyman. Those who knew him, or knew of him, knew they could rely on him for a house project, a late night household emergency, or advice on a household project. He could “MacGyver” anything, and was there in the drop of a hat. He not only came to help, but was patient, thoughtful, and loved teaching about how to fix the problem as he worked (especially when a meal was promised afterwards). You could call him from anywhere, explain where you were, and he’d navigate you home safely. He just knew how to do it all. He loved any chance he had to watch his granddaughters, and especially loved waking up and singing silly songs with them while they dipped biscotti into his coffee (after ensuring they ran and gave him his baseball cap!). Craig was also an avid fisherman. He fished all his life. He caught 119 trout this year, and got to catch his last fish on a boat with his two granddaughters who adored him. His first date with Jo was fishing on the Springton Reservoir, and they continued to share many adventures together fishing and boating over the years. He welcomed everyone to join them on their boat on the Chesapeake Bay where he made so many precious memories and watched many beautiful sunsets. All he ever wanted was to be with his family. He adored his loving wife. They were together for 50 beautiful years, and she loves him more than anything. They built a beautiful family together. He was infinitely proud of his children and family. They loved raising their daughters together. He welcomed everyone to the home he built, put his love and sweat into, and raised his family in. He lived his life with his father in his heart, who he often spoke of as his hero – a WWII veteran whose strength shaped his character. Craig will be remembered for his strength, kindness, loyalty, humor, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Roland and Dorothea (Moore) Sassaman, and his Father in law Sebastiano “Benny” Augello. Craig is survived by his wife of 39 years, Josephine “Jo” (Augello) Sassaman; children, Melissa (Louis) Gentile, Nicole (Mark) Schwegler and Christy (Joe) Petrino; grandchildren, Sophia and Chelsea; Mother in law, Tina Augello; sister Donna (Ben) Sassaman, sister in law, Lisa (Tom) Innaurato; brother in law, Michael (Diane Latini-Mcintyre) Augello. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends whom he loved. Visitation: Monday, 6:00 PM at the Lombardo Funeral Home 530 W. Woodland Avenue Springfield.
