Clare T. DiGaetano

Clare Theresa DiGaetano – died February 18, 2021 at St Joseph’s Manor in Meadowbrook, PA. Clare was born in Philadelphia, October 21, 1923 to William Joseph Powers and Alice Quinn-Powers. She was the last surviving child of eleven. Clare married Dominick Norman DiGaetano on February 7, 1942. Dominick preceded her in death in 2008. Both of them were card-carrying members of the “Greatest Generation” with Dominick’s US Army Infantry service in the Pacific Theater for three years and Clare’s “Rosie the Riveter” tour at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. They had four children, Patricia and husband John Cleary (both deceased), Norma and husband Tom Craig of Milford, DE, Bob and wife Debbie DiGaetano of Bensalem, PA and Bill and wife Michelle DiGaetano of Temple, TX. At the time of her death, Mom-Mom as she was affectionately known, had 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. An additional great-grandchild is due in June. Also preceding Clare in death, was Kathy Cleary a grandchild that died at birth and Sally DiGaetano, her son Bill’s first wife. Mrs. DiGaetano worked as a school crossing guard at St. Charles Borromeo School in Drexel Hill when the kids were younger and later at JC Penney in Upper Darby. Clare was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Drexel Hill for over 60 years. She was also very active with the St. Charles Seniors Club and was a regular at bingo each week for many years. In addition to her many Irish American specialties, she graciously learned how to make her father-in-law’s Italian meatballs and tomato gravy recipe. That tradition continues in the family today. The family is very grateful for the special caregivers and the wonderful attention Clare received at St Joseph’s Manor.
