Edward M. Murphy

Edward M. Murphy, 87,of Springfield, PA. Passed away at sunrise on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by members of his loving family. Ed was born to Richard and Mary Virginia (Rigney) in Philadelphia, PA, the second of 8 children. He graduated from Darby High School and Spring Garden College. Ed was a first class machinist at Boeing for more than 30 years and was a member of UAW Local 1069. During his lifetime he enjoyed working on old cars and had a passion for fixing just about anything mechanical. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his retirement, he enjoyed his family and friends, traveling, storytelling and restoring old clocks. For a while he taught evening classes in clock restoration. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Rita Murphy (Kozlowski, Romano). Ed and Rita are long-time members of the Saint Francis Parish where they met in the “Over-50s” club. Together, they enjoyed many years as greeters in the church and actively participated in the Christmas Bazaar and White Elephant sales. Ed is survived by his loving daughter Rosemary Murphy and Son-in-Law Steve Oskie of Philadelphia. Ed was previously married in 1957 to Rose M. Murphy (Toscano), who passed away in 1984. He was a long-time resident of Aldan, PA and previously of Darby where he was a Life Member of the Darby Fire Patrol #2. Ed leaves one sister, Rosanne Rockwell (Murphy), and one brother, John Murphy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves a large and loving step-family including two step-sons, Dennis Kozlowski of Frankford, Delaware, his wife Antonetta and Joseph Kozlowski of Springfield, Pennsylvania and his wife Eva. Four step-grandchildren grew up with Ed as their Grandpop, including Natalie Henderson (Kozlowski), Ashlie Kozlowski, Kristin Giambra (Kozlowski) and Steven Kozlowski. Seven step-great grandchildren refer to Ed as “Great Grandpop,” including: Luke and Brody Sherry, Lannah Kozlowski, Deegan and Jake Henderson, and Garrison and Adam Giambra. On Saturday, April 14, 2018, a prayer service will be celebrated at the Williams-Lombardo Funeral Home, 33 W. Baltimore Avenue in Clifton Heights, PA. Guests are invited to arrive at 10 am and the service will begin at 11am followed by a funeral procession and interment of Ed’s ashes at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, scholarship contributions may be made in memory of Edward M. Murphy.
