Robert N. Alls

Age 66 passed away peacefully at home on January 5. Born October 31, 1953, Hallowe’en was always a special day for him. Bob was the beloved husband of Jeanmarie F. Alls (née Fegely) for 32 years. Bob graduated from Lansdowne High School. He joined the Air Force and was stationed at Pope Air Force Base where he was assigned to the American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS), commonly known as A-Farts for its entertainment and command of internal information networks worldwide. Off duty, Bob worked at a local radio station and earned his bachelor's degree in Communications. Upon graduation he returned to the Philadelphia area to work in radio and television. He met his wife, Jeanmarie, at Bryn Mawr College where he managed the Audio-Visual department. He began his 34 year career at WHYY Inc. where, as a broadcast engineer, he held various positions in both radio and television. One highlight of his career was recording interviews at the station with prominent figures such as Henry Kissinger and Shirley Temple. For a period of 10 years, Bob was the technical director of WHYY’s satellite tv operations. This position afforded him to travel to various locations in the US and included star studded events such as the 1996 Olympic games and the Superbowl in New Orleans. He won consecutive Uplinker of the Year awards during the span of his assignment on the satellite truck. Bob had many interests and talents. He founded a recording company, Bifrost Productions, and recorded concerts such as the Cape May Music Festival. He was an avid photographer and traveler, traveling to Europe and the east coast of the US and Canada. A skilled woodworker, his creative furnishings adorned the couple’s log home, which he helped design. Bob loved to cook and often made salsas, jams and other homemade treats that he canned as gifts for his friends. Retired in 2020, his colleagues remember him as the guy they could go to for help or for a good laugh. Bob gave back by training new hires at the station. Proudly, he conducted tours of the station to young aspiring communication majors. Bob is survived by his wife Jeanmarie Fegely Alls, his sister Shannon Dowie Harper, his brother William Alls, his sister, Kelly Alls, sons Jonathan and Christopher with former spouse, Suzanne Wallace, and nephew, Ethan Harper.
