James J. Prendergast Jr.

The beloved Patriarch of the Prendergast family James J. Prendergast Jr. (Jim) passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2023 at the age of 83. He was a two-time cancer survivor but succumbed to Stage IV lung cancer after a 3-year battle that he fought strongly every day. Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1940 and grew up in West Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd. He went to West Catholic High School and attended St. Josephs University. He married his high school sweetheart Patricia (Pat) at St. Denis Church in Havertown. Eventually they proceeded to move to Newtown Square where they lived together for over 50 years. They just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in November. He worked for several companies including Pierce Phelps, Reuben Donnelly, Rusty Jones and Krex. Then was self-employed until his retirement. He volunteered for many years as a coach and served on the boards of both Newtown Edgemont Little League and St. Anastasia’s CYO. James came from a large Irish family with 4 sisters and 1 brother. His deceased siblings are sisters Catherine Donnelly, Ann Murray, Mary Fasola and brother Thomas Prendergast. He is survived by sister Joan Foley and his wife Patricia, his three children Judy Prendergast (Frankie Pohar), Mark Prendergast, Kevin Prendergast, Kevin’s wife Susan Prendergast and her daughter Jessica Albert. He was also a wonderful grandparent to 5 boys all of whom he loved very much. Kevin’s sons Sean Prendergast and Jake Prendergast. As well as Mark’s sons James Prendergast, Andrew Prendergast, Charles Prendergast and their mother Maura McMahon. His faithful dog Fluffy was by his side when he passed. Please join us to celebrate the life of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, James (Jim/Jimmy) Prendergast. Our family has been so devastated by his loss. We want to celebrate him in a way he would have liked, with lots of love and lots of laughter. Please join us to drink a toast, share some food, some laughter and memories with loved ones and friends. We want to thank everyone for all the love and prayers they have sent to our family through this journey. We love you all.
