Fred Jay Krieg Ph.D.

Fred Jay Krieg, Ph.D., 67 of Yeadon formerly of West Virginia, died March 27, 2014 at LifeCare Hospital of Chester County. Dr. Krieg was born in Brooklyn, NY to Carolyn (nee Shutinsky) and the late Max Krieg. Survived by his wife Jane Harbert; children Joshua Krieg, Zachary (Erika) Krieg, Israel Sharp & Ashley (John) Menarchik; grandchildren Baylee Sharp, Benjamin Sharp, Gracie Menarchik, Madison Menarchik, Rowan Krieg & Everett Krieg. Also survived by his mother Carolyn Krieg and his brother Bruce Krieg. Dr. Krieg was an accomplished psychologist, educator, consultant and author. He held an undergraduate degree from Boston University, a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, and two doctorate degrees from Ohio State University. A licensed clinical & school psychologist Dr. Krieg led a multi-city, multi-disciplinary mental health practice that at the time was the largest in the state of West Virginia. He acted as a consultant to school systems, businesses, and the legal community. An instrumental member of the National Association of School Psychologists, Dr. Krieg was awarded the National School Psychologist of the Year Award and served on the executive council. At the time of his passing Dr. Krieg served as a professor for the Marshall University Graduate College in Charleston, WV. Among numerous awards honors Dr. Krieg was the recipient and/or served as the following: Recognized by the Governor as a Distinguished West Virginian Recognized by the Governor of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel President of the West Virginia Psychological Association President of the West Virginia School Psychologists Association West Virginia School Psychologist of the Year National School Psychologist of the Year A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, mentor, friend, and colleague Fred dedicated his life to create a lasting impression on everyone he touched. A Celebration of Life will occur in April in Charleston, WV. The exact time and date will be determined.
