Bobra L. Hagarty

Bobra L. Hagarty passed away peacefully on May 6, 2020 in Springfield PA. She was 88 years old. Bobbie had been in poor health and struggling physically and mentally for the past two months, necessitating a move from assisted living into full time nursing care. Bobbie was born Bobra Ann Linderman in Shamokin PA on July 29, 1931 to Mildred and Adrian Lester Linderman. She spent childhood time in Shamokin among many family members, especially her grandmother Emma Stillwagner Linderman and grandfather Fred Linderman, both of whom she loved dearly. Bobbie and her mother moved to Aldan PA and subsequently to Secane when her widowed mother re-married. As a young girl, Bobbie frequently travelled by train to visit her grandparents in Shamokin. She lived at the Dracup house at Oak and Green Lane in Secane with her mother and step-father William Dracup, and attended the one-room schoolhouse in Primos-Secane, graduating with the class of ’49 from Upper Darby High School. Bobbie married Joseph B. Hagarty in 1951, and they raised their four children in Collingdale, PA. Joe was a member of Saint Joseph’s Parish in Collingdale, and their children attended grade school there. Bobbie and Joe loved taking trips with their children to various points on the eastern seaboard, hauling their travel trailer to their favorite places. They later spent time at the Jersey Shore near Ocean City and eventually bought a cottage at Stone Harbor where they spent many happy times with family. After Joe passed away in 1995, Bobbie kept the house at Stone Harbor and it became a place for adult children and grandchildren to gather. She kept busy and active playing cards and going on bus trips with friends including Virginia Thompson, whom she had known since childhood. She remained fond of train travel and took several trips west to visit her daughter, both with Joe and after his death. Bobbie loved to draw and sing, and was very artistic. She was a gifted soloist, and enjoyed singing with her church choir throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of Saint Steven’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Heights, PA., and enjoyed the company of many friends and relatives there including members of the Dracup family. She was always involved in her Church, and continued to regularly attended services and coffee hour at Saint Steven’s during her later years until her mobility issues and health difficulties prevented it. She was a retiree from AT&T, having worked there as a service representative on and off for 30 years. She started just after high school as a teletype operator with Bell Telephone in Upper Darby and was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. She later worked in Ardmore, Chester, and in Center City Philadelphia. Bobbie is preceded in death by her infant brother Ronald, her husband Joseph, her daughter Cheryl Hagarty-Prinster, and grandson Joseph Prinster. She is survived by son Ron Hagarty of Boothwyn PA, daughter Lynda Hagarty-Zearfoss of Libby, MT, and daughter Sandy DeJesse of Secane PA. She was Nan-Nan to her granddaughters Danielle and Michelle Hagarty, Ellie and Tracy Prinster, and grandsons Shannon Hagarty, Harry J. DeJesse, and Keith Prinster. In 2019 she became great grandmother to Genevieve DeJesse. Bobbie also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and their children. She will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature, as well as her sense of humor. She loved animals, and her buddy Lucky Cat kept her smiling in her later years. She had a long and happy life, and was loved dearly by many. At the end she was tired, and was ready to leave this life and walk with the Lord, and to meet again with Joe and other loved ones in Heaven.
